Water Damage Middletown – Cleaning Carpets
3/23/2022 (Permalink)
We will walk you through the water damage in Middletown.
Many smaller water damage situations involved a small section of carpeting near the kitchen or bathroom. A leak occurs, and the water spreads to nearby rooms and before the water can be turned off. In these situations, SERVPRO has found that the entire room must be managed and not just the section of carpet that has become wet.
SERVPRO has helped many customers in Middletown with water damage situations from overflowing tubs and sinks in kitchens and bathrooms. On many occasions, we have found that the entire room must be cleaned and dried to return the room to its original condition. "Like it never even happened."
Drying the Affected Area
The crew chief always reviews the situation and recommends the best approach to dealing with the leak and wet conditions that exist. Initially, the area where the leak occurred must be processed. All water should be vacuumed or mopped up and dried.
Wet carpets should also be vacuumed with a wand-style vacuum to remove as much water as possible. The carpet may be raised in one or more areas to allow air to circulate under the carpet to dry the floor and underpad. Air movers may also be used to push air under the carpet to enhance drying.
Why Clean the Entire Room
Once the carpet is dry, the dried area can be noticeably cleaner than the rest of the room. The process of removing water from the wet area also removes existing soiling that may have been present.
Appropriate preparations to clean the remainder of the carpet in the room affected needs to be made. For example, remove lighter furniture from the room. More cumbersome furniture should be raised on blocks or left in place.
Standard carpet cleaning techniques can then be applied to clean the entire room, including wiping down baseboards, and hard floors adjacent to the carpet. SERVPRO also ensures cleaning solution is not sprayed onto curtains and furniture left in place.
Our SERVPRO crew chief can discuss all of these steps with you to determine the best approach to help deal with the water leak and subsequent cleaning needs.
